Whenever we complete quotes for Frameless Glass pool fences In the Gold Coast we often have individuals requesting more information about coloured glass. Usually, we don’t use glass that has been colourised– but the varieties of glass we work with do vary in their purity.

A lot of the glass that is manufactured today is made to suit budgets, and often this normal glass is the one that is used for day-to-day Frameless Glass pool fences. On the other hand, if you are looking out for a greater look, or added strength, Absolut Custom glass can help you – there are naturally types of glass that can seem much clearer than the others.

The clear glass which we most commonly use on the Gold Coast are Starphire, UltraClear, Optiwhite, Starwhite and Krystal Klear just to list a few.

What is the difference?

Actually, the process of developing this very clear glass starts in the manufacturing system. Normal toughened glass will usually have a slight green tint to it. This is not usually obvious to the naked eye when looking directly at a panel. It becomes more apparent when you look at an edge of the glass, this is the place where it may look rather green.

Quite often to the untrained eye, all the glass will look clear, until you put a piece of a style of ultra-clear glass up next to the standard glass. These kinds of Ultra clear glass are an end result of the manufacturer decreasing the amount of iron content in the glass.

Many people don’t often imagine iron in glass, but it is an aspect that is an extremely important part of the manufacturing process with glass. And to create this low iron content glass, they tend to use a Silica-rich process instead– silica being a component found in sand.

There are some fantastic positive aspects to this kind of glass, and not just the visual appeal. We have in fact seen a huge boost in the manufacture of ultra-clear styles of glass due to the solar panel industry. Because this sort of glass can hold heat energy longer it is the recommended choice for solar panel glass. This means that we will keep seeing manufacturing costs lower down the road due to this increase in interest.
